The Guiding Principle Behind Energy Medicine

by Arie Kishon

Energy Work

In many traditions there are references to an organizing principle that ensures the flow of life through matter. Whether it is referred to as Qi, Chi, Prana, Energy, Life Force, Vital Force, Odic Force, Spirit or Soul, its presence in a proper and balanced manner represents life and harmony, while its absence represents disease, derangement or death.

Ancient, as well as commonly practiced forms of “alternative” medicine today, equate ailments of many kinds to a blockage in the flow of this organizing force, or to a state of imbalance of the living organism with its surroundings.

The principle behind the many types of “energy medicine” is mainly the manipulation of this organizing force so as to remove any blockages, and bring the individual to a state in which they are more in tune with the forces operating within them, as well as with those that surround them. This will allow for the organism to cure itself as it exhausts less of its resources on sustaining pain and an anxious disposition, and thus health is more likely to be attained.

Why energy medicine?

The advantages in conventional medicine could, and should not be ignored. The mechanistic view behind conventional western medicine had managed to produce remarkable procedures that work exceptionally well in case of an emergency, or when life saving action is required. However, alongside the “coarse” means of conventional medicine, for the purpose of promoting general wellbeing, one will be wise to employ the benefits available through the subtlety and refinement of energy medicine.

In terms of chronic illnesses, conventional medicine makes use of sophisticated instruments and measuring tools in an attempt to achieve objectivity in diagnosis. Nevertheless, this objectivity may not be accomplished for two main reasons. First among them is that a diagnosis made with the use of a machine only represents a value within the parameters that the machine can detect, and not necessarily the true state that the patient is in. The second reason for imprecision in this matter is that disease itself isn’t objective. Humans differ in their physical, mental, emotional and circumstantial make up, and sadly there still doesn’t exist a machine refined enough to take all of these parameters into account and obtain a diagnosis that will reflect the disease unique to each individual’s situation.

I am open to provide support for any medical condition, however, the client is advised to be under the care of a medical doctor for their illness or discomfort. It is also advisable that the client should inform their doctor of their decision to receive support from an energy work practitioner, and adhere to their doctor’s recommendations in the matter.

What does an energy work session include?

Initial consultations will normally take longer and will include a longer duration of time (30 minutes) devoted to discussing the problem that the client is seeking help with. Discussion is then followed by active energy treatment. This should last between 10 and 20 minutes and in most cases should not involve touching the client. Refraining from touch will help both the practitioner and the client asses the sensations they may experience during treatment, and not confuse them with body heat or any sensation one might get from touching different articles of clothing. In case a client is wearing glasses or jewelry, they will be asked to remove them for the period of active energy treatment. This includes “protective” jewelry of most kinds, which may remain close by, but not on the person. Following active energy treatment the client is encouraged to remain in a comfortable position for about 10 minutes and observe any feelings they may experience. It is advisable to avoid scheduling demanding activities following an energy work session.

In follow up sessions, the opening discussion is expected to last approximately 10 minutes. Thus initial consultations should be concluded within 1 hour, while follow up consultations may last 40 minutes.

When done remotely, an energy work session is expected to last just as long. The client is asked to be in a private room where they will not be interrupted, and they are expected to not be engaged in other activities for the duration of treatment,

What to expect

In the course of time, after several treatments, we may find that the most pressing issues that we were dealing with have been resolved, or that we have just forgotten about them, on account that they are not bothering us anymore. It is crucial to keep track of the progress we have made, since it serves as a testament to what our particular bodies can do to promote health. As we find relief from the pain or discomfort that brought us to seek help in the first place, we may find that older symptoms, problems that we were dealing with before, are becoming more noticeable. This is a sign of improvement. It means that we are strong enough to deal with issues that had to be repressed in the past, for different reasons. The next step would be to address the current state that we are experiencing, with calm and patience, and so advance and build our strength do deal with even deeper issues that may have led to our current suffering.

For most of us, the dis-ease we feel today may be the result of issues we have been carrying around for years and years, and the disentanglement of such a complicated state of affairs cannot be expected to come over night. Even though energy work is done by using forces that  may be beyond ordinary perception, it isn’t magic, and the quest for health will require persistence and determination.
