Today is the 7th day of Chinese lunar new year. Traditionally, this day is the birthday of everyone. So Happy birthday to us all. About the year of snake, I appreciate this following passage from ancient philosopher Zhuangzi’s “The tree on the Mountain”. When he described person that has Dao, he said:

“He is above the reach both of praise and of detraction; now he (mounts aloft) like a dragon, now he (keeps beneath) like a snake; he is transformed with the (changing) character of the time, and is not willing to addict himself to any one thing; now in a high position and now in a low, he is in harmony with all his surroundings; he enjoys himself at ease with the Author of all things; he treats things as things, and is not a thing to them: where is his liability to be involved in trouble?”

There are significant differences and similarities between a dragon and a snake. Both creatures serve as symbols of change and transformation. I hope that in the Year of the Snake, we will all be inspired to evolve and adapt over time. May the Year of the Snake bring you health and renewed energy for love and creativity.

The images presented here showcase a New Year work/gift designed by Arie and me, titled Element Snake, by Spurs Gallery. Element Snake pieces that represent the five elemental colors, cycles, and are composed of curves and angles for energy balancing. These blocks are not only playful but also adaptable, allowing you to create various combinations of shapes. As we observe in life, subtle changes in angles, perspectives, and patterns can result in a completely different picture.
