During my winter travels, I visited Japan, China and Thailand. I had the opportunity to spend time with my family and, also, I had the privilege to study with some of the most renowned Chinese doctors in Beijing and Guangzhou.

In Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, I observed and studied in the Rehabilitation department, and learned Cheek Acupuncture therapy. Different from facial acupuncture for cosmetic purposes as is common in US, Cheek Acupuncture therapy is one of the most innovative new acupuncture paradigms in China. It is based on a holographic theory to treat the whole body and the mind. During my study in the rehabilitation department, I witnessed the immediate effectiveness of Cheek Acupuncture therapy for many diseases, including severe cases of paralysis from either stroke, brain embolism, or post-surgery.

During my stay in Beijing, I studied again with my mentor in the field Dr. Zhang Bo in Zheng ‘an Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic. Dr. Zhang’s treatments were very focused on herbal formula prescriptions, to treat many internal diseases including infertility, menopause, irregular menstruation, coughs, colds, and developmental problems in children. In those cases, properly prescribed classical herbal formulas was the best approach for complex internal patterns.

Chinese medicine is an ancient knowledge system and it continues to evolve through the work of doctors and pioneers of medicine.During this trip in China, I have encountered many treatment methods and concepts within the framework of Chinese medicine. I am excited to bring my new experience and new knowledge back home. And I have to say, I miss New York!
